Pastels are everywhere you look this season, dominating the catwalks, and filtering down to the high street en masse too. ‘Gelato Mio’, Jessica’s new Summer 2012 nail polish collection, reflects the trend, with six mouthwatering pastel shades to keep your nails bang up to date this summer.

As the name suggests, the collection of “elegant yet playful polishes” is themed around flavours of Italian ice cream, giving it a true beachy vibe. The cool colour palette includes: Strawberry Shake It, Barely Blueberry, Lime Cooler, Banana Peel, Tangerine Dreamz and Surfer Boyz n’ Berry

My collection favourite, and this week’s manicure of choice, is the sunshine bright ‘Banana Peel’ yellow. It might be a pastel shade, but it certainly packs a punch! The citrus hue is fresh and flirty, and an instant pick-me-up for those not-so-sunny days. The polish has a creme finish, so has a gorgeous buttery appearance, and is the perfect shade of yellow - it stands out without the harsh glare you’d expect from a yellow colour.

Celebs have obviously cottoned onto the trend too, with the likes of Rihanna and Zooey Deschanel parading beach-inspired nails recently. Zooey went all out for the Critics Choice TV Awards, with a lemon themed manicure, that included random stripes, glitter and even 3D crystalised bows. Why not wear it like the queen of quirk, who teamed it with a pillarbox-red dress, in a colour-clash combo, or take Rihanna’s lead and let your yellow mani add a splash of colour to a monochrome outfit.
